5/24/01 Question 103

Dear Preschool Teacher,
I am going to start taking classes for my CDA.  I was wondering what different teaching jobs can you get with this?  Can you be a kindergarten teacher.
What can a CDA do for me?

Dear What can a CDA do for me?,

A CDA is not a degree.  It is a certificate telling others you have trained to take care of children.  You will not be able to teach kindergarten.  That requires a four year degree with certification or licensing depending on where you live.  You should be able  to teach in a child care center or Head Start.  Many places are beginning to require an associate degree (2-year)  in Early Childhood Development even for Head Start.    Jackie
