6/10/01 Question 113

Dear Preschool Teacher,
I am a education major at UC, next wed. I need to turn in a lesson plan (or 2) about preschoolers and money. Perhaps you have something that you have done in your class that introduces money to these youngsters
Need your 2 cents

Dear Need your 2 cents,

Money is really a lesson that most preschoolers are too young for ,but I think you could probably have a store and use paper or plastic coins. Give each child 5 or 10 pennies. Put a price on some small toys . Mark them from 1 to 5 or 10. Children then have to use number skills to figure out how many toys they could buy. You could graph coins too. This would teach children to notice the differences in the coins. It would take a few coins to do though. Play money could be used. You could sort the coins first as another math activity.
