Question 140
Dear Preschool
Teacher,
My four year old ask me daily the name
of each day. Is there a picture association game I can play with her
to teach her the days of the week? For example: I have drawn the sun
next to Sunday and the number 2 by Tuesday and it works, but I cannot
think of a picture or association for each day of the week. Can you
help me?
Calendar Girl
Dear Calendar Girl,
Is there a special activity that you do on
some of the days? I babysat for a 3 year old once who called the
days I kept her "Jackieday!" She then knew what day it was.
Maybe associate the day with the first letter of each name:
Sunday -sun
Monday- money, milk,
Tuesday-2, teeth
Wednesday- wheels, water, ?(why)
Thursday- a glass of water (thirsty)
Friday- an egg or a skillet
Saturday- a chair to sit on
Good luck and have fun!

Dear Calendar Girl,
This is the
song that I sing with my kids every day:
There
are 7 days in a week
Sung to: "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow"
There are 7 days in a week, 7 days in a
week, 7 days in a week, and I can name then all!
Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday. Saturday is the last day,
and know I've named them all!
Sunday,
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday!

Dear Calendar Girl,
I sing a days-of-the-week song with my
son. I have written the names of the days in large letters on
colored, laminated paper. I point at them as we sing the names. It
only took a few days for him to recognize the words.
Can't really tell you the tune, but it is
usually easy to find a popular children's tune and change the words.
Have fun!

Dear Calendar Girl,
I do a days of the week song with my class
everyday. As we sing the song we point to the days of the week on
the calendar. In no time at all the children start to associate the
names with the words on the calendar.
My favorite song is:
Days of the week
Sung to: "Oh my Darling"
Sunday, Monday
Tuesday, Wednesday
Thursday, Friday Saturday
Sunday, Monday
Tuesday, Wednesday
Thursday, Friday Saturday

Dear Calendar Girl,
Perhaps
it would be easier to try to think of your own schedule to associate
with for her. For instance: you go to the library on Monday,
the park on Wednesday, the grocery store on Thursday, do
laundry on Friday, Daddy is home on Saturday, church on Sunday, etc.
