4-20-00 Question 28
Dear Preschool Teacher,
Hi, I teach 3 year old preschoolers. I am currently
working on a theme of teddy bears. I am looking for dramatic play, art and
circle time ideas. I would like ideas for corduroy, pooh and just plain old
teddy bears. Any suggestion you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!

Dear Teddy Bear, teddy bear,
A really neat art project that I do for Teddy Bears
is to take old coffee grounds and cover a teddy bear cut out of
construction paper. I just allow the children to paint the glue
all over it with a paintbrush and then lay the teddy glue side down in
the coffee grounds.

Dear Teddy Bear, teddy bear,
I do the coffee ground teddies too, and always dry
the grounds out on a cookie sheet in a warm oven before gluing because the
grounds may mold otherwise (someone I know had a teddy turn moldy-ew)

Dear Teddy Bear, teddy bear,
Here are a few teddy bear activities I do with my
class on "Teddy Bear" day... We have all children bring in a
teddy bear. We put the teddies along the window ledge as they
come in, having each child put theirs in the line in regards to how big it
is (small to large in order of size). For breakfast you can serve
teddy bear toast (cut bread with a cookie cutter and toast it). During
circle we read "Corduroy" and "A Pocket for Corduroy".
We set up all our learning centers around the teddy bear theme: 1. Make a
corduroy puppet using a brown lunch bag, providing kids with overalls, they
decorate with buttons, cloth for a pocket, etc. 2.Sponge painting "bear
prints" 3. Using a scale balance to weigh bear counters, 4. Blocks:
building bear caves 5. Dress up area - reenact "The Three Bears".
After centers time we sit in a circle and observe all our bears on the
window ledge and discuss which is the smallest, largest, females, males,
then group according to colors. Then at lunch time we have a teddy
bear picnic. (Kids sit with their bears while they eat). I hope you
can use some of these ideas!
