6-19-00 Question 34
Dear Preschool Teacher,
I'm just starting a new pre-k program and was looking for
a good inexpensive way to make cubbies for the children's clothes and stuff.
Any suggestions on keeping their stuff separate?
Thanks,
Cubbies?
Dear Cubbies?,
An inexpensive way of doing cubbies is to have the
parents bring in a shoebox or plastic container or crate. That way
they are bearing the expense (most everyone has these items already in their
house) and they can have it back at the end of the year. And it was no
cost to you!

Dear Cubbies?,
My husband made some cubbies out of inexpensive
pressed plywood. I painted them bright colors and they work great.
He made 4 sets with 7 cubbies in each set. They each
have a hook for their coats, and etc and also a space at the top to put
their papers in.

Dear Cubbies?,
You could get a bunch of plastic milk crates and
stack them low, maybe 3 crates high at the most by however many you need.
This will create "shelves"; each child can use one crate for
his/her things and a separate area with hooks can be used for hanging coats.
Good Luck!
