Question 63
Dear Preschool Teacher,
Our theme this month does not give us a whole lot of
information. I need some new ideas. Any suggestions for "Kids in Motion".
Thanks,
Kids in Motion?
Dear Kids in Motion?,
I have never done a theme like that but here goes.
Play the exercising with Mickey tape and do a preschool aerobic
class. You could ask the kids to describe how they get from one place to another,
such as car, tricycle, roller skates, walking, running, etc. You
could make graphs or have the draw the different ways that they get around and
make a book about it. Good luck and I hope that this helped.

Dear Kids in Motion?,
It sounds like it's time to get into the
exercise mode ;-) In addition to traditional exercise and
aerobics, it might be fun to introduce some dancing and rhythmic
movement. We do a lot of this in our Center and the kids love
it. 2 songs the kids love to move to are "Hands Up, Baby
Hands Up" and "YMCA". We also have a great
Canadian publication called "Rainbow Fun" which is full of
movement activities.

This sounds like movement and activity! Hap Palmers
"Sammy" or Greg & Steve's "A Walking we will
go" and many other movement activities would work here. Maybe a
small unit on transportation -- especially how kids get around? Kids
exercise tapes would work also.

Dear Kids in Motion?,
This is my area
- exercise! There is video called "Kids in Motion" with
Scott Baio (Happy Days, Charles In Charge). I've used it with several
groups (4 and 5 year olds) and they all LOVED it. I do with the
kids and we all have fun.
Another idea is to use Parachute Play. There are
several good records (CD's) for the parachute. The one is Playtime
Parachute Fun for Early Childhood. I found it in Constructive
Playthings www.cptoys.com
You could end the unit with a kind of Field Day
with various events the kids can participate in. You could even have
several classes participate. It doesn't need to be competitive
(ribbons to win). Kids like to just be "Kids in
Motion".
Have fun!
