Question 91
Dear Preschool
Teacher,
I'm doing a research paper for school and I need to
know the
responsibilities of a preschool teacher, but I can't find it. Can you
please let me know some things.
Thank you,
Responsibilities
Dear Responsibilities,
It really depends where you work. I work at a Head Start and my
responsibilities are my monthly paper work, taking care of the children, and making sure the
children's needs are taken care of. We do weight and Height measurements. There is really so much! Curriculum,
Activities, Safety regulations, and the children them selves.

Dear Responsibilities,
I am responsible for a variety of duties as the director and only teacher at my preschool. I am responsible for a curriculum for both my 3 and 4 year old classes for the school year. I am responsible for purchasing all the materials needed for the projects I have planned. I am also responsible for purchasing all the cleaning supplies for the preschool. I am responsible for the cleaning of my room each week. Every month I write a newsletter, calendar and treat schedule for the parents. I am responsible for the supervision of my assistant and make sure the prep work is getting done. I also am responsible to the parents for any questions or problems they may have with their child. I also am responsible for the collection of the tuition each month and sending home late notices if necessary. Any my main and most important responsibility that I have is providing a fun and safe atmosphere for my kids to learn in.

Dear Responsibilities,
I am responsible for setting up my
room, bulletin boards, keeping toys clean and safe, safety of
environment, attending teachers monthly meeting, writing my own
curriculum and lesson plans. If there are specific items needed
I usually ask and then purchase myself to be reimbursed. We are
also
responsible for keeping the room clean, except the janitor mops and
sweeps floors and vacuums.
We are expected to use new ideas as well as attend
workshops. I am able to get many new ideas off the Internet
and various groups. This makes me a better teacher I think.
Lesson plans need to be turned in the last week of
the month for the next month. These are supposed to be posted in
our room. We also post daily schedule. Outside playtimes
are usually set, but we set our own classroom schedule by coordinating
with our "buddy" teacher since we share an assistant.
We are supposed to be set for the next day before
we leave, including all supplies, books, etc. Assistant helps
with supplies, paints.
We also are supposed to try to get our own
substitutes if we can.
Of course, the reason we are there is for the
children! Safety for them, a fun and loving learning
environment, new experiences is what it is all about! I think
that about covers it, but I might have forgotten something.
There really is a lot to it!

Dear Responsibilities,
I depends on where you work.
I teach pre-k and my responsibilities is to keep their cumin folders
up to date, report cards, notes to parents, programs, PTA, testing,
safety of the children's, lesson plans, fire and disaster
drills, parent conferences, teach specific skills and have them ready
for
Kindergarten. This is just a drop in the bucket.

Dear Responsibilities,
The first and foremost responsibility of
any teacher is the safety of the children. I also feel we are
obligated to meet the needs of each child. Some children need
socialization more than cognitive skills at first. Some need to
work on fine motor skills. It really varies depending on the
child. Then it depends on what type of program you claim to be.
Daycare or after school care requires that the child be supervised
carefully
but preschool requires some educational offerings. The
philosophy of the program is involved also. Some schools are
more academic than others.
Personally, I feel a program
should be well-rounded and offer a little of all areas of development.
The ages and needs of the group as a whole is another major factor.
If the group is all young threes, you probably won't focus a great
deal on the alphabet or shoe-tying skills. I hope this is enough to
help you. I could go on all day but that isn't what you need!

Dear Responsibilities,
I am a preschool teacher. I plan
all the lessons, prepare all the materials, find all the stories and
make all the games. I am also responsible with my assistant to
keep the room and bath room clean and healthy.
Since I am also the owner I must purchase all
the supplies, collect the tuition and listen to parents. I love
my job. I was a Public school kindergarten teacher for 34 years.
Now I am creative and less stressed. I do not have parent
teacher conferences or report cards.
