Question 98
Dear Preschool Teacher,
I have a 4 year old asking for more
information on blood. He got "slashed" during a
pretend hockey game with his dad and had developed a real interest in
blood. He has looked it up in two books but the information
provided is very, very simple /vague. Without dumping on him, do
you have any ideas on how to explain blood? Any experiments? Any
websites that may have good pictures of the blood system? Thanks
in
advance for your help.
Clotted on Blood Info
Dear Clotted on Blood Info,
What is his specific question?
Most 4 year olds only want basic information. Perhaps he is
concerned about how much he has. You could put red-colored water
in containers until you have the same amount people have. Then explain
that it has to bleed alot to cause problems. Pour the red water
through tubing to demonstrate how it flows through the body.
Most
children are interested in blood because of the adult responses to it!
There are good circulatory pictures in science books. Maybe that
would help. Have fun and don't dwell on the morbid stuff.
