Question 41/ Are scissors appropriate?
Dear Preschool Teacher,
When should you start teaching a child to use
scissors? I see some activities using scissors and am not sure if that
would be age appropriate. Someone told me a good first step would be
to have them cut playdoh first. I have always cut the patterns out for
them and just had them paste them.

Question 42/ Fundraisers, Grants, and Money Oh my!
Dear Preschool Teacher,
Our church has recently started a daycare. It truly
is meeting a community need. As always, they are barely meeting
daily expenses and there is a real need for playground equipment.
Local fundraisers are needed just to keep them afloat as this is a
somewhat depressed economic area. Do you have any suggestions on
grants or any other ways extra money could be secured? You help
is greatly appreciated.

Question 43/ Out of Control!
Dear Preschool Teacher,
I recently accepted a new job teaching 19 four year
olds. Yesterday was the first day and worst day of my life. They were
out of control. We went over a few simple rules, they can even recite
them to me, but they don't follow them. They won't keep toys in the
right center, and even though I showed them how to play with the toys
and then put them back, they don't. I use a small jar to keep tokens
in when I see good behavior to earn a reward. I use a lot of praise,
but some don't care. One is an escape artist and throws tantrums.
Help!

Question 44/ Beginning Teacher
Dear Preschool
Teacher,
I am beginner preschool teacher. I only work
with the kids two days a week but would like for us to do something
educational and fun with the kids. The only problem is that they are
only about 20 months old and it's hard to keep their attention long
enough to do crafts. If you think of anything or have any suggestions
please post it.

Dear Preschool Teacher,
I am a new Preschool Teacher. I would like to know
if you have any suggestions on how to introduce letters of the
alphabet. Is there a specific order in which I should introduce the

prewriting skills? I would appreciate any suggestions or tips you
have.

Dear Preschool Teacher,
Please give me some tips on how to handle
biting. We have a special needs child that often bites instead
of communicating verbally. We monitor the child closely but he
