Question 51 / 4 year olds and the Alphabet
Dear Preschool
Teacher,
I am about to start a mothers day out program at my
church and will have a group of 4 year olds and I would like to know
what you think the best way to teach them the alphabet and how to
recognize them. Should I concentrate on a few letters a day? What is
the best way to handle this?

Question 53 / Out in The Cold
Dear Preschool Teacher,
I teach in Head start. Now that the weather
is getting colder, parents don't want their children outside. Our
policy is to take them out every day unless it is raining or bitterly
cold. I thought there was a certain temperature to go by but no one
seems to know what it actually is. I had a very irate parent call and
our coordinator told her we don't take them out below 30 degrees, but
we do. I asked our former Director and she said we take
them out unless they have pneumonia or chicken pox, in which case
they wouldn't be there anyway. Is there an article or something I can
share with parents showing them that going outside doesn't make them
sick?

Dear Preschool Teacher,
Please help me I have a 23 month old in my
toddler group that's still bites. She never stops. One day she bit
five different children. What should I be doing? My director doesn't
think it's a big deal. I do! She doesn't believe in discipline.
What should I do? I talk to the child mom already.

Dear Preschool Teacher,
I have an absolutely brilliant and
adorable new child in my preschool class. However, he is ADD or
so appears to be. His parents have not had him tested yet and he is
four-years-old. How can I encourage them to have him tested.
I've lost at least 5 pounds this week keeping him occupied.

1/31/01 Question 58/ Color Curious
Dear Preschool Teacher,
I think my 2 1/2 year old son may be color
blind. He can always identify green and blue but consistently
calls red - green and yellow - blue. Is it too soon to know for
sure? If he is color blind, will this present problems in
preschool? How is a color blind student handled? Thank you
for your input.
