Question 22
Dear Visitors,
We
are starting something new at our preschool next year. We are having
children self select books from the library every other week to check
out and take to their classroom. We are trying to think of a catchy
name for this special day that would relate to early literacy, rather
than just call it Book Check Out Day. Any ideas?
Library Lady
Dear
Library Lady,
The name for your day could be
"READING IS OUR FUTURE" or other ideas could be, Whatever
the name of your Preschool maybe you could call it "The name of
your Preschool Pick a Book Day" Hope these were a few
helpful ideas .. Hope they do help.

Dear
Library Lady,
How about "Pick your very own book
day!" It seems to give the control back to the child for a change
and enables each student to feel powerful and proud in the choice they
made. It's similar to the Book Sale week or Plant Sale week, they are
all so excited to show off to each other and teachers what they
picked. The name of the day must be advertised with excitement and
anticipation (signs on the school walls, pictures up all over the
school showing elated children choosing books in the library) make the
day a big deal and so will the students. Good Luck!

Dear
Library Lady,
"Catch a Story" Maybe
have a picture of a child with a butterfly net leaping to catch flying
books.

Dear
Library Lady,
How about a "Bear"
theme?...decorate the door with a giant bear reading a book and call
it "B.E.A.R. Day" = Be Excited About Reading...day!
I Love Bears...and Books!
Dear
Library Lady,
How about "Buggy Book day"?
